Reply with quote | #2 | Hi Bill,
First of all I'm a huge fan (and single parent of two daughters) and ever grateful for what you have championed with Parent To Parent! Not only have I become a much better father as a result, I have been an impassioned and active P2P facilitator & Master Facilitator Trainer since 2000 here in beautiful Shasta County, California.
John Clarkin trained me and I continue your good work. In fact in 2004 John gave me permission to produce a short, not-for-profit video to help motivate parents of Latino families to 'put themselves in the way' of burgeoning gang and drug escalation in northern California. He asked that since I was using some great P2P principals that he would appreciate my giving you and the Passage Group credit, and I was most happy to oblige.
It was a small scale volunteer project for me (I happen to be a filmmaker) and drug seizure money was used by multi-agency law enforcement heads to pay for the cost. No profit, yet plenty of utility. I sent a copy to John in 2004 yet never heard back. While it had no budget really, wasn't shot on 35mm film with famous actors, it was professionally produced, won 2 national Telly Awards and was endorsed by the Attorney General of the State of California for distribution statewide. If you would ever like to see it I would be most honored to send you the English version DVD.
In closing, Bill, I should make this short. I feel so emboldened that you continue fighting this Toxic Culture; that is what I've always loved about you, man! You're the real deal! Welcome to the Blogosphere - I can't wait to tell my facilitators and parents!!
With tremendous admiration & gratitude,
Alan Ernesto Phillips

Reply with quote | #3 | I would love some suggestions for getting parents at our private school interested enough in the Parent to Parent program to attend a session/discussion. We have had the program for about 7 years with a sad response from our parents. The information is so good and pertinent to today's child raising that I can't imagine why parents aren't interested. Maybe they are pulled in too many directions to make time for yet another "meeting". Help me help our school parents discover this information! Lisa in Athens GA

Reply with quote | #4 | Good Morning, Alan.
Thank you for the kind words. They are greatly appreciated.
I would love to see the video you produced. If you would be kind enough to send us a copy, I will view it with great interest.

I am constantly humbled when I get to meet folks like you who have been involved with P2P for so many years. It, like me and the Eveready Rabbit, just keeps going, and going and ... Again, many thanks! BillO |

Reply with quote | #5 | Good Morning, Lisa. Take a look at our new "Turn On The Lights" series of videos. Click on the Turn On The Lights button at the top of our website. These are very graphic and, I might add, very disturbing videos showing the Toxic Culture in action as well as kids' reaction to it. It will "disturb the comfortable". You then offer P2P to "comfort the disturbed."
Lou Colombo, the developer of the "Turn On The Lights" series, also is available to facilitate a "Town Hall Meeting" for your parents. Just call him at 800-487-7743 to discuss this approach. Also, using "Turn On The Lights", recruit and train many facilitators. They are the key to reaching a large population... at least four per grade. This enables you to have a "critical mass" of parents.
Many private schools require parents to attend the series when they first enroll their child. It becomes "part of the deal" and places emphasis on the parent group's and administrations "expectations." Why not post a separate thread here asking others what is working for them?
Stay in touch. More to come. Thanks for all you do. BillO |

Lisa,
I'm going to jump on Bill's reply to your question.
I'm a Christian school administrator in your area and I've done my own P2P in the local YMCA.
Our plan for our school is to make P2P a part of the parent orientation for our middle and high school students in the future. An alternate format may be to utilize it during our monthly parent meetings. Any meeting that has students performing will draw a crowd then you can show all or a portion of the video and lead a condensed discussion. You might use a clip as a teaser during PTA meetings to boost registrations for your P2P.
